The intensity of the beam I = P/A = 8.0×10^-3W/(pi*r^2) = 8.0×10^-3/(pi*(3.5×10^-3)^2) = 208W/m^2
The intensity is also = Emax^2/(2*muo*c) so
Emax = sqrt(2*muo*c*I) = sqrt(2*4pix10^-7*3.0×10^8*208) = 396V/m

laser pointer question here. im i going to go blind?
I was at a resturant and a guy was pointing a regualer red laser pointer at the wall. I accidently looked up and looked at the side of the laser for a second then looked away real quick. The laser did not directly hit my eye but looked at the side of it. I have not noticed and eye problems. am I going to get eye damage?

does regular red laser pointer have to directly hit your eye to cause damage. I ask this because i accidently looked at the side of laser pointer for a second. Does looking at the side cause damage?

there are many type of laser basically 4.
class 4 and class 3 lasers will definitely affect your eyes
